COURSE OUTLINE
1. Introduction to Energy Management:
This module provides a foundational understanding of energy management, equipping participants with a holistic perspective on its principles and significance. It introduces the Energy Management Pyramid, which encompasses three key strategies: energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. By exploring these interconnected components, participants will develop a clear appreciation of energy management’s role in driving conservation, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring compliance. This foundational knowledge sets the stage for deeper exploration of Energy Management Essentials: Driving Conservation, Enhancing Efficiency, Ensuring Compliance throughout the course.
2. Regulatory Framework
This module provides an overview of the regulatory landscape governing energy management, offering participants valuable insights into the structure, policies, and compliance requirements. It highlights the regulatory perspective, ensuring a clear understanding of the legal and institutional frameworks that shape energy management practices. This foundational knowledge prepares participants for a more in-depth exploration of the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Act, which will be the focal point of the subsequent discussions.
3. Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA)
This module explores the newly enacted Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA), which aims to regulate energy consumption, enhance efficiency, and minimize energy waste. Participants will gain a practical understanding of the Act by exploring its purpose, scope, key requirements, and compliance obligations. The module will also address the consequences of non-compliance, potential challenges in implementation, and opportunities for organizations to drive meaningful impact through effective energy management practices. Through guided discussions, participants will develop the skills needed to navigate and understand how the Act relates to their respective sectors.
4. Key Roles in EECA
This module focuses on the key roles and responsibilities outlined in the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA), with insights into how they relate to regulatory requirements. Participants will navigate through the Act’s compliance obligations, gaining a clear understanding of the expectations for various roles within an organization. By exploring these responsibilities, participants will be able to connect the regulatory requirements to their workplace roles, ensuring compliance while maximizing the intended benefits of the Act.
5. Duties of Energy Consumers
This module provides an in-depth exploration of the responsibilities of energy consumers as outlined in the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA). Participants will gain a clear understanding of key compliance requirements, including the Energy Management System (EnMS), Energy Efficiency and Conservation Report, Energy Audit, and Energy Audit Report. By comprehending these obligations, participants will recognize the importance of compliance, while avoiding potential violations and penalties stipulated under the Act.
6. Duties of the Person in Charge of a Building
This module provides a comprehensive exploration of the responsibilities of the Person in Charge of a Building as outlined in the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA). Participants will gain insights into key compliance aspects, including the Energy Intensity Label, its display requirements, restrictions on alteration or forgery, Energy Intensity Performance, Energy Audit Report for buildings, and the Energy Efficiency Improvement Plan. By understanding these duties, participants will be better equipped to ensure compliance, uphold regulatory standards, and contribute to the overall energy efficiency objectives of their buildings.
7. Registration of Energy Managers and Energy Auditors
This module focuses on the registration requirements for Energy Managers (REM) and Energy Auditors (REA) under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA). Participants will explore the qualifications, application process for registration, and the issuance of practicing certificates for REMs and REAs. The module also covers the renewal process and conditions under which a certificate of registration may be cancelled. By understanding these regulatory requirements, participants will be well-prepared to navigate the certification process and ensure compliance with professional standards.
8. Energy Efficiency & Conservation Regulation (EECR) Module
This module explores the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Regulation (EECR), outlining the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders to ensure compliance with energy efficiency standards. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the regulations beyond the act, focusing on the core areas: Energy Consumers, the Person in Charge of Buildings, and the Registration of Energy Managers & Energy Auditors. This session is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and approach necessary to navigate the complexities of EECR effectively.
